What goes wrong with jacket production
Jackets have more parts and more suppliers than any other garment — which is where most problems start.
- “Patches peeled off after a few wears.”
- “The lining colour was three shades off from the sample.”
- “Zip quality felt cheap compared with the rest of the jacket.”
- “Ribbing stretched out and the cuffs went floppy.”
- “Quilting lines were uneven, so the jacket looked unbalanced.”
- “No factory would take a 100-piece run of a complex jacket.”
How we solve each one
| What you told us | What we do about it |
|---|---|
| Patches lifting | Correct backing (twill, felt or chenille) plus stitch-down or bar-tack at stress points rather than glue alone. |
| Lining colour drift | Lining fabric dyed against your reference swatch and approved before cutting. |
| Cheap-feeling zips | Specify metal or quality-brand zips and test pull cycles; hardware is listed on the spec sheet. |
| Floppy ribbing | Higher-recovery rib knit with correct elastic content, tested for stretch and return. |
| Uneven quilting | Pattern-matched quilting channels with a marked layout before the fill is stitched. |
| Complex, low-quantity runs | Our sampling-first workflow makes 50–100 piece jacket runs viable. |
Jacket styles we manufacture
Outerwear is our most technical category. These are the constructions we build most often:
| Jacket type | Fabric / construction | Best for | Usual decoration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varsity jacket | Melton wool body, leather sleeves, rib trim | Heritage streetwear | Chenille patch, embroidery |
| Bomber / MA-1 | Nylon or poly shell, rib cuffs and hem | Core streetwear line | Appliqué, embroidery, back print |
| Coach jacket | Nylon or cotton twill, snap front | Layering, merch | Screen print, embroidery |
| Puffer / quilted | Quilted shell with fill, high collar | Winter drops | Embroidery, woven badge |
| Overshirt / shacket | Brushed cotton or poly-wool | Mid-season capsules | Embroidery, buttons and labels |
| Work jacket | Canvas or twill, utility pockets | Workwear lines | Screen print, patch |
Complex jackets need the most sampling time. We would rather add three days to the sample than rebuild 300 jackets.

Pricing, MOQ and how to bring your cost down
Jacket cost is dominated by construction complexity and hardware. Here is where the money goes:
| Cost factor | How it moves your price |
|---|---|
| Shell & lining fabric | Wool blends, technical nylons and quilted shells differ widely in cost. |
| Fill and quilting | Down-alternative fill and channel quilting add material and labour. |
| Hardware | Zip grade, snap buttons, eyelets and cord locks are individually priced. |
| Patch & embroidery work | Chenille patches and multi-colour appliqué are hand-intensive. |
| Quantity | Complex jackets gain most from volume because sampling and setup dominate small runs. |

Custom Jacket Manufacturing — frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for custom jackets?

Can you make varsity jackets with chenille patches?
Yes — melton wool body, leather or synthetic sleeves, rib trim and chenille, twill or felt patches with embroidery.
How long does jacket production take?
Sampling takes about 10–14 days and bulk usually 30–45 days depending on complexity, plus inspection and shipping.
What does a custom jacket cost?
Most orders range from about US$18 to US$75 per piece. Shell fabric, fill, hardware and patch work drive the price.
Can you match a jacket sample I already have?
Send the physical jacket and we will identify shell, lining, fill, hardware and construction, then quote to match it.
Do you offer custom linings and inner labels?
Yes — printed linings, jacquard woven lining labels, inside pockets and custom inner branding are all available.
Can you do puffer jackets with down-alternative fill?
Yes, in quilted shells with channel or diamond quilting and down-alternative fill. Fill weight is listed on your spec sheet.
